What is Coaching?
Coaching can be described as "unlocking people's potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them".
Sir John Whitmore
Coaching Psychologists use 'the scientific study and application of behaviour, cognition and emotion to deepen our understanding of individuals’ and groups’ performance, achievement and wellbeing, and to enhance practice within coaching'.
British Psychological Society (BPS), Division of Coaching Psychology (DoCp)
Coaching is not Counselling, or Mentoring or Information, Advice & Guidance (IAG).
Most importantly, Coaching is for ANYONE and can be the catalyst for long term personal or professional change & development.
Sometimes life can feel like it is happening to us. Maybe it feels more difficult to follow that DREAM, achieve that GOAL, get that PROMOTION, start that BUSINESS or rediscover that thing that made you HAPPY once upon a time.
Happiness can have a different meaning for different people and EVERYONE deserves a chance to live a happy, fulfilled and FLOURISHING life.
Where's the evidence?
I am affiliated with the Division of Coaching Psychology (DoCP) in the British Psychological Society (BPS), the Career Development Institute (CDI) and the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC). This means that I practice as a coach under a robust code of ethical guidelines. My practice is evidence based and I regularly remain up to date on the latest developments in psychological, career development and coaching research. Studies into the outcomes of Coaching have shown :
- An increase in the positive emotions that people experienced & enhanced overall Wellbeing.
- Improved individual and team performance.
- Increased self-esteem, confidence and resilience.
- Clarified Values, Strengths, Meaning and Purpose in life.
- Improved Self-Regulation and the ability to create new positive habits.
- Improved relationships with friends, loved ones or colleagues.
- Increased ability to Flourish rather than Languish.
Most importantly for me, Coaching is about giving you the mental and also physical space to be 100% authentically YOU. In return, I will respectfully challenge you to question, reframe and ultimately reflect on your thoughts, ideas and how you would like to make positive changes happen in your life.
So, maybe you're interested or looking for a Coach or have seen or heard something about Coaching from a friend, colleague or on a podcast. Maybe you even clicked on the wrong link (been there). Maybe you're just plain curious! However you ended up here, I have been where you are now and I am truly grateful that you're here and perhaps I can be of service to you in some way.
You are the expert of your life.
For helping professionals, Covid-19 has changed the way we think, the way we feel and maybe even our perspectives on work and life. For me, it meant questioning my own values, strengths, goals and how I want to serve others. That is why I completed a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology & Coaching Psychology during the pandemic at the university of East London and continue to work towards Chartered Coaching Psychologist status within the Division of Coaching Psychology (DoCP) over the next few years.
Coaching is my calling.
Coaching is currently an unregulated profession in the UK, which means that anyone can call themselves a Coach - and there are some phenomenal, experienced Coaches out there. As a helping professional myself, it is important for me that I utilize psychological & evidence based frameworks/methods/techniques to support your development.
Let's grow together.
If our paths cross, then I look forward to hearing your story, co-creating new narratives. If they don't, then I hope you coming here has helped in a small way with finding what you are looking for. No hard sell. No false promises. Only an authentic desire to help you to discover what you may be looking for.
